MOVING TIPS

Start a checklist and keep it close so you can add to it as you go. Start packing early to give yourself time so you don't need to cram at the end.

1. Move on a weekday when banks, utilities and government offices are open.
2. If you're moving locally, leave the power and water on at your old address a few extra days so you can go back and clean up after you move.
3. Purchase boxes and moving supplies 2-4 weeks before your move.
4. Choose a 'packing room' ahead of time and box up a few things each day.
5. Use moving labels to mark each box with its contents and destination room.
6. To save time, rent a carpet cleaner at the same time you rent your moving truck.
7. If moving locally, leave your pets with a friend on moving day. Animals can become confused and frightened during a move.
8. Notify everyone of your change of address:
   • Your credit card companies
   • Bank(s)
   • 401K
   • Brokers or other financial institutions
   • Employer
   • Department of Motor Vehicles
   • Cable/Satellite
   • All Magazines
   • Newspapers
   • Insurance Companies
   • Doctors, dentists and other service providers
   • Other Memberships (health clubs, Netflix, etc.)
   • Friends and Family
